What to expect in a Fertility Acupuncture consult

Need some help with TTC/ fertility but not sure where to start? Feeling a bit lost and miffed that it hasn’t happened yet? I understand. I’ve been there. Wondering if I’d left it too late. Wondering if I was ever going to fall pregnant. The good news is that there is much you can do to improve your chances of conceiving. With or without IVF/ IUI..

Firstly, I’d like to say that most OB/GYN/ Fertility Specialists won’t tell you what you can do to improve your chances of conceiving. But Fertility Acupuncture Practitioners like us will…

So, what happens in a Fertility Acupuncture consult?

We ask you a bunch of questions. About your general health, about your menstrual & hormonal health. Then about your fertility journey thus far. Including your test results if you have any.

Your answers help us to decide what would best help you. Help us to work out what obstacles there may be to you falling pregnant. In a scientific and holistic way.  That is, not writing off every failed IVF transfer to a woman’s age. There is often more to the picture than this..

For example, the interplay between a fertilised egg and the uterine lining is very complex. The immune factors and blood circulation affecting that lining is crucial to successful implantation. Every self respecting gardener knows that before you plant seed, you need to prepare the soil. If the soil isn’t healthy, a good harvest is simply not expected.

Ponder that for a moment.

Have you taken any steps to improve your immune system or blood circulation? Don’t know where to start?

A fertility acupuncturist can teach you. And it’s quite simple and easy. Like most things, it’s just knowing what to do.

Of course, there are many other potential obstacles to falling pregnant. A good practitioner will thoroughly examine your unique situation and try to find a way through the obstacles. Or simply maximise your chances each cycle.

So, once we have a picture of what you need, we form a strategy to help. A strategy that suits you. And what helps to remedy feeling lost and confused? Having a plan. A good practitioner will make a plan with you.

It could involve many different steps. Depending on your situation. It could involve improving your nutrition. Or eating a specific way to optimise your egg count. Improving your sleep perhaps. Losing or gaining weight. It could also include advising you have a fallopian tube flush.Pregnancy

It could also involve having Fertility Acupuncture or Herbal Medicine. And your consult would include reading your body in different ways. ie. Looking at your tongue, and taking your wrist pulse.

What does Fertility Acupuncture treatment involve?

For most women trying to conceive, it involves 3 months of improving your overall health and your periods. Ideally even before you start trying. That is, prepare the soil before you sow the seed.

For women who have irregular, painful or troublesome periods, this 3 months of treatment can make for much better hormonal balance and health.

If there seems to be sperm quality issues… that is; poor fertilisation rates, early miscarriages/ chemical pregnancies or not getting day 5 blastocysts, 3 months is often enough time to make a positive difference. Men make a whole new batch of sperm every 3 months.

And if there seems to be egg quality issues, that is; poor fertilisation rates, early miscarriages/ chemical pregnancies, not getting day 5 blastocysts, or failed transfers. Five (5) months is often enough time to make a positive difference. It takes a whole 5 months for a primordial follicle (that which we are born with and AMH indicates), to grow, mature, be recruited and finally to be ovulated…

So, having a strategy to improve your egg quality over this period of time can be helpful. Especially when another period arrives. When you have to pick yourself up and focus on the next steps that can help make a change. Now what are those steps?..

Let’s work them out.
