Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to treat a wide variety of the underlying causes of back pain over the centuries to great success. Back pain (BP) can consist of pain, aching, discomfort or weakness anywhere in the region of the back; including the neck, shoulders, posterior pelvis, sacrum or gluteal region/s of the body.
What is the prevalence of Back Pain?
Neck pain (NP) and lower back pain (LBP) are common symptoms experienced by many in their daily lives today. Statistically to date, around 70% of the general population will experience LBP, whereas around two-thirds of the general population will experience NP in their lifetime.
What is the cause of Back Pain?
BP may be due to any number of different causes and/or life events. Too numerous to mention here.
How does Acupuncture treat Back Pain?
Acupuncture has been shown to effectively alleviate the signs and symptoms commonly associated with BP.
Firstly, a clear and concise diagnosis is made, addressing any underlying cause/s, followed by a course of Acupuncture intervention; aimed at reducing inflammation, alleviating discomfort, and rectifying any weakness associated with the local area.
How many acupuncture sessions I need for my back pain?
Treatments are wholly dependent upon the severity, duration and nature of the underlying condition, in a case-by-case scenario.
Sudden onset BP may disappear after a singular treatment, whilst longer standing BP may require anywhere from one to four consecutive treatments to resolve the condition completely.
Does Acupuncture have any side effects?
When carried out by a qualified professional, acupuncture is a very safe form of treatment, with little to no side effects.
Minor adverse reactions may include soreness or bruising. Both of which will dissipate in the following day/s proceeding treatment.
Serious complications, such as an infection, or damage to the tissue or organs are extremely rare, and usually only occur as a result of improper intervention. It is advised to always seek professional care, with a qualified Acupuncturist.
